NASHTU's Loss, Glenn West Moving On

I will be leaving MGEC on 11/20/02. I may or may not be working for them during the January/May, 2003, legislative session in Minnesota as their lobbyist, it all depends on if my board accepts my proposal to do so. But I will definitely be leaving the Executive Director position. My wife is a staff person for the Girl Scouts and she has taken an assignment in Germany for three to five years, based out of Heidelberg. We leave for Germany on 12/1/02. So I've decided that now is the right time for me to take the opportunity to become a mediator/arbitrator by taking some training and doing some interning with some arbitrators. A search process for a new MGEC Executive Director is underway and the board will be considering the applications soon.

A new MGEC Executive Director will get strong lobbying from me to remain active with NASHTU and to improve the efforts that our own organization has begun in Minnesota. I wish NASHTU success in getting the message delivered to state legislators and to U.S. congresspeople that NASHTU is trying to save taxpayer dollars, not put consulting engineers out of business, and trying to help build and maintain a cost-efficient transportation system.

Glenn West
MGEC Executive Director
